ANXIETY DISORDERS

Anxiety disorders are a group of mental disorders characterised by significant feelings of anxiety and fear. Anxiety is a worry about future events and fear is a reaction to current events. These feelings may cause physical symptoms, such as a fast heart rate and shakiness.


DEPRESSION

Depression (major depressive disorder) is a common and serious medical illness that negatively affects how you feel, the way you think and how you act. Fortunately, it is also treatable. Depression causes feelings of sadness and/or a loss of interest in activities once enjoyed. It can lead to a variety of emotional and physical problems and can decrease a person’s ability to function at work and at home.


PHOBIAS

A phobia is a type of anxiety disorder, defined by a persistent fear of an object or situation. Types of specific phobias include to certain animals, natural environment situations, blood or injury, and specific situations. The most common are fear of spiders, fear of snakes, and fear of heights.


Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is an anxiety disorder caused by very stressful, frightening or distressing events.

SEXUAL ABUSE

Sexual abuse, also referred to as molestation, is usually undesired sexual behaviour put upon one person by another.


OBSESSIVE-COMPULSIVE DISORDER

Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a mental disorder in which people have unwanted and repeated thoughts, feelings, ideas, sensations (obsessions), and behaviours that drive them to do something over and over (compulsions). Often the person carries out the behaviours to get rid of the obsessive thoughts.


EATING DISORDERS

A range of psychological disorders characterised by abnormal or disturbed eating habits (such as anorexia or bulimia).


DISORDERed eating

A condition where an individual doesn't fulfil the criteria for a full-blown eating disorder, however displays unhealthy thoughts and behaviours towards their interaction with food. 


BODY SHAPE DISORDERS

Body dysmorphic disorder (BDD) is a condition that involves obsessions, which are distressing thoughts that repeatedly intrude into a person's awareness. People with BDD might focus on what they think is a facial flaw, but they can also worry about other body parts, such as short legs, breast size, or body shape.


PARENT-CHILD RELATIONSHIP DIFFICULTIES

Parent-child interactions that have difficulty in understanding one another, with parents experiencing behavioural issues within their child as a result. 


BEHAVIOURAL AND EMOTIONAL DIFFICULTIES OF CHILDHOOD AND ADOLESCENCE

Disruptive behavioural disorders that are common during childhood and adolescence as a result of misunderstood difficulties.


SLEEP PROBLEMS

Sleep problems, including snoring, sleep apnea, insomnia, sleep deprivation, and restless legs syndrome.


PSYCHOLOGICAL IMPACT OF PHYSICAL ILLNESS

Poor physical health can lead to an increased risk of developing mental health problems.
