Collaborative Problem Solving Therapy (CPS)

A PROACTIVE APPROUCH TREATMENT FOR RESOLVING PROBLEMATIC BEHAVIOURS.

Collaborative and Problem Solving Therapy addresses the wasted human potential of children and young people whom present with behavioural, social and emotional challenges. Still in today's age children and young people experiencing these issues remain poorly understood and treated. The approach combines both CBT Therapy and Transactional Analysis. CPS Therapy is a new innovation and philosophy, developed in the early 21st century. It is based on neurological research and the ethos that young people that present with challenging behaviour lack important thinking skills and suffer with learning and developmental delays. This premise is supported by neuroscience studies conducted over the last 30 years with young people whom have presented with aggressive or difficult behaviour.  The CPS Process will help teachers and parents identify and resolve challenging behaviours in children and young people. This process firstly identifies the problems that require targeting. Once identified, the CPS framework will offer parents, teachers and the children the ability to listen to one another and learn to compromise on a collaborative outcome.

The CSP framework will provide the following benefits:

Tools to identify unsolved problems

Techniques to address the lagging skills that underly the problematic behaviour

Explicit guidelines on how to radically improve interactions between adults and children with challenging behaviours

Practical guidance for successful collaboration between teachers, parents, school and children

CPS Therapy will encourage all parties to strategise and problem solve, aiding them to overcome obstacles of frustration.

Ultimately, this will result in better understanding from both parties and reduce behaviour issues that children and young people may present.
